Almost 20,000 false coins found

BRUSSELS – 18,203 false euro coins have turned up in Belgium since the beginning of this year. That is a record high number, Het Laatste Nieuws reports.

The Royal Mint, which receives the false coins from police and money transport companies, says most of the forged coins are copies of the 2 euro coin. While only one counterfeit coin was discovered in 2002, it is expected that about 20,000 will turn up this year. 14,676 counterfeit 2 euro coins have already been found this year....
