There are some real bargains among proof Jefferson nickels. The first-year 1938 is a good example. Coin Prices lists a Proof-65 1938 Jefferson nickel at $70.
In contrast, a Proof-65 1937 Buffalo nickel is valued at $850. Both are low-mintage coins compared to the regular-issue nickels from the same years. The 1937 Buffalo proof had a mintage of fewer than 6,000 pieces. Around 19,000 proof 1938 Jefferson nickels were struck.
